Tips for Choosing Your Web Host

There are many web hosting companies out there today, so many, that it can be very difficult for someone to choose just what company to go with. They all seem to offer great value for the money, but are you really getting as much as it seems? Since web hosting is such a competitive area, many companies would promise you the moon if they thought it meant you would do business with them rather than their competitor, so you have to be careful when it comes to choosing a web host. There are some basic guidelines and things that you should look for when trying to choose a web host, so keep reading. Maybe I can make your search a little easier.

The first thing you will want to look at is the cost. Most web hosting companies offer hosting for as little as twelve dollars per month, but to get this rate you have to sign a service agreement, much as you do with your cellular service. You have to agree to keep your hosting with that company for a certain period of time, usually twenty-four months. If you decide that you would rather not agree to those terms, then the price will likely rise significantly. Before you commit to any kind of web hosting agreement, make certain that you read all of the fine print, and fully understand just how much you will be paying for the web hosting services you will be provided with. The deal may not be so sweet after you read the fine print!

Make certain that you also find out just how much storage space and bandwidth you will be allotted with your account, and how much more you can expect to pay if you require more. Many companies will offer unlimited storage space and bandwidth, but will require you to change to a higher priced plan once you reach a certain amount. Ask about this up front, so there are no surprises awaiting you down the road.

Unless you are a technical genius, sooner or later you may have to contact your web hosting support department, so you want to make certain that you choose a host who has a reputation of providing great support. It may be a good idea to actually send in a mock support claim before you signup for the service, just to see how it gets handled. If you have the technical support phone number, that is even better. If you can’t get a reply, or if no one seems able to answer your questions, then you should consider that a warning sign, and continue looking for a web host that can offer you hosting that you can afford, the space and bandwidth that you need, with great support as well. Your business may depend on the support and reliability of your web host, so don’t play around here! You can’t afford to lose your business over something as silly as a bad web host!
