New York Sports
When it comes to major league teams no other city or state for that matter is represented as well as New York. I don't believe that there is ever a night when some type of major sporting event isn't taking place whether it's hockey, baseball, football or basketball. Within these four sports New York is represented by six different teams.
Hockey
The National Hockey League (NHL) had some problems but has bounced back and i9s going strong. The New York Rangers have recruited Shanahan from the Red Wings as a strategic move. Home games are played at Madison Square Garden which is home to some of the most loyal fans ever. If you're a Detroit Red Wing fan I would recommend coming to see Shanahan play for the New York Rangers (if you can get a ticket). It's always interesting to see how players adjust to their new teams when they have signed with another team.
Baseball
Besides hockey there are some other professional sports offered in New York City that are worth taking a look at if you are visiting. There are two baseball teams represented in Major League Baseball (MLB) in New York which have no problem drawing fans to their games. Most people in New York are loyal to one of the teams, either the New York Mets or the New York Yankees.
Football
Double teaming does not end with baseball. There are two National Football League (NFL) teams represented in New York; the New York Giants and the New York Jets. Sometimes I wonder to myself how this city can survive with all this competition among the citizens. If football fans and baseball fans were as wild as hockey fans can get then there might be some major fighting occurring on the streets.
Basketball
Although there are two baseball teams and two football teams there is only one National Basketball League (NBA) team that is represented by the great city of New York; the New York Knicks. There is nothing unfair though about only having one team instead of two like the other sports because the entire city cheers for the New York Knicks instead of only half.
It is almost impossible to be a fan of every sport. Trying to schedule life around one local team for each sport is hard enough; imagine trying to schedule your life around two.
If you are a true sports fan, whether man, woman or child, I would highly recommend taking advantage of one of the many professional sporting events offered while in New York City. This may just be the greatest thing about New York.
